For the past 40 years Roger Ballen has portrayed a visual reality where human beings and animals are trapped in an incomprehensible and illogical world – Theater of the Absurd.
His powerful black-and-white photographs are profoundly existential; Roger Ballen regards his artist practice as an exercise in defining himself. Ballen´s exhibition at Fotografiska in Stockholm presents over 100 works from the 1970s to the present day.
The Theater of the Absurd is produced by Fotografiska, and curated by Anette Skuggedal and Ellen-K Willas. A limited edition illustrated catalogue with an essay by the italian art critic Didi Bozzini will be published on the occasion of the exhibition.
Roger Ballen´s Theater of the Absurd, on display at Fotografiska, Stockholm from March 14 – June 7 2014.
